Les Frontons Flingueurs, natural red wine, AOP Fronton 100% Négrette, 2018 (75 cl)

Living in harmony with nature is paramount to this month’s featured viticulturists—and in Fronton wine country, true harmony resides in the Négrette, a unique grape variety they see as the bold answer to today’s increasingly insipid flavours. The Négrette, as its name indicates, is a black grape that produces a very dark red wine.

We invite you to discover the cuvée Les Frontons Flingueurs, a natural, full-bodied, fruity wine that brings back forgotten flavours. This Négrette is just the kind of red we love: authentic and natural, with the rich taste of red and black berries and a hint of spices. They add just enough sulphites to preserve the fruity, digestible character of the wine. It looks and tastes amazing with our artisanal cassoulet.

 
Savoury hummus spread made of white Lingot beans from Lauragais with lemon and cumin (90 g)

The Lingot is an oval white bean that’s been cultivated in southwest France ever since Catherine de' Medici, Countess of Lauragais, brought this plant imported from the Americas by Christopher Columbus to her domains.

Smaller than its cousin from the Vendée and with a thinner, more digestible skin, the Lingot is still grown in the Lauragais region today, and our artisan has transformed it into a delicate hummus with no artificial colouring or preservatives—just a hint of lemon, cumin, salt and pepper to bring out its full flavour. Pure edible gold!

 
Delicious, all-natural artisanal Oie du Sud-Ouest rillettes (180 g)

To make fine goose rillettes, you need good poultry—the famous geese of southwest France or Oie du Sud-Ouest—but the real secret is the cooking process. Just like in the olden days, our artisan lets the meat cook very slowly in its own fat overnight, shreds it by hand the next morning, adds a bit of duck fat and cooks it a bit more to achieve these amazingly smooth, savoury rillettes.

To enjoy them in true Gascon fashion, serve the rillettes on a bed of salad with a thick slice of country bread… and if you can top it all off with sautéed porcini mushrooms, so much the better!

 
Lautrec pink garlic snack spread (180 g)

Lautrec pink garlic is grown in the region of Toulouse and has a sweet, subtle flavour that can be used to enhance a wide variety of dishes. Our artisan mixes it with a bit of duck fat for extra creaminess, using all-natural products with no artificial colouring or preservatives.

The result is a smooth purée packed with flavour. Spread on a slice of bread and enjoy.

No visit to this region would be complete without a taste of cassoulet, a typical local dish of stewed white beans and meat. And La Gourmet Box found the perfect artisan for the occasion: a chef at a good restaurant in the “capital of cassoulet” who decided to share his recipes with the world. His cassoulet is made with locally raised goose, home-made pork sausage and, of course, the essential Castelnaudary broad beans, slowly stewed in a special broth prepared by Philippe (the secret ingredient).

When it’s done right, nothing beats a good cassoulet. Heat in a saucepan, or top with a bit of cheese and melt in the oven. An amazing gourmet discovery!

It’s fun to prolong childhood pleasures after the holidays with little home-made treats that bring back fond memories. Lovingly crafted by a Volvestre confectioner and flavoured with extracts of typical Haute-Garonne fruits and plants, these artisanal marshmallow morsels have a perfect texture and exquisitely delicate taste.

Gourmands will be delighted!

We’re in love with the Collectif des Gourmandes! First of all, because people are at the centre of their business philosophy—in fact, the collective is registered as a SCOP or employee-owned cooperative—and secondly, because they’ve made the quest for all-natural flavours a priority: they don’t use any artificial flavours or colourings, industrial additives or palm oil. And then there's the amazing ingredients: pure organic goodness. All this, plus a healthy dose of culinary talent, translates into scrumptious confections like these chocolate and walnut brownies. It’s impossible to eat just one... but don’t worry, we made sure to include two!

Violets have been associated with the city of Toulouse—known as the “Pink City” because of the pink terracotta bricks of its buildings and its famous flower—for ages, so we absolutely had to include them in this gourmet box.
