THE BORDEAUX GOURMET BOX

BORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR 2011, RED WINE (75 cl)

Bordeaux Sup. Fleur de GaussensProducer: Château Fleur Haut Gaussens.

This "superior" Bordeaux from Château Fleur Haut Gaussens is made the old-fashioned way at a small family winery that has been turning out unusual wines with character for four generations. Bottled without fining or filtering, this blend is 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It has a lovely ruby colour and exudes a powerful aroma of red berries. Silky, delicate and with a smooth mouthfeel, this wine has a personality all its own.

CASSOULET À LA GIRONDINE (750 g)

Cassoulet girondeProducer: Château Semens.

Cassoulet is a typical comfort food in south-west France. Prepared according to a traditional recipe, this gourmet dish will bring back memories of grandma's cooking. The Espelette pepper adds a little zest to a deliciously balanced combination of white beans, sausages and duck confit. No artificial colouring or preservatives, just old-fashioned goodness. To eat, simply pour the contents into a large saucepan and heat on low for a few minutes. You're in for a savoury meal!

"LE BORDELUCHE" ARTISAN PORK PÂTÉ (190 g)

pate bordelucheProducer: Conserves Garde.

Bordeluche is the dialect spoken in Bordeaux and the surrounding area, but in the case of this pâté the name has more to do with its regional roots and intense personality. Its succulent flavours are sure to delight more than one palate, which is why we recommend eating it with friends—and, of course, a good wine and some fresh bread. This 100% pork pâté is made according to a traditional recipe from the choicest meat cuts. A true delicacy for gourmands.

CURRIED ASPARAGUS SNACK SPREAD (120 g)

asperges curryProducer: Oh ! Légumes Oubliés.

If you're tired of the same old guacamole, trade it in for this ideal snack food! The slightly bittersweet taste of Bordeaux asparagus and the spicy kick of curry are a match made in heaven. This creamy mixture made with organically farmed produce is ideal for spreading on bite-size pieces of toast. Refrigerate after opening.

4 CANELÉS AU RHUM (150 g)

Canelés bordeauxProducer: La Toque Cuivrée.

A staple of Bordeaux cuisine, canelés have an attractive shape and caramelised flavour that makes them virtually irresistible. Legend has it that this pastry was invented by nuns at the convent of L'Annonciade, who had access to a wide variety of exotic ingredients from faraway islands, such as rum and vanilla, thanks to their proximity to the bustling port of Bordeaux. Canelés are delicious no matter how you eat them: hot, cold, with a red berry coulis or even whipped cream. And they're always a hit with afternoon tea or coffee.

BLACK CHOCOLATE AND ORANGE SARMENTS DU MÉDOC (60 g)

Sarments MédocProducer: Mademoiselle de Margaux.

A chocolate speciality of Bordeaux, the Sarments du Médoc are known for their peculiar vine-shoot shape. In fact, they were invented in a picturesque village surrounded by Médoc vineyards. One day at the Margaux confectioners' shop, which made chocolate bars for pastry chefs, a problem with one of the machines turned the normally straight bars into twisted twigs. Customers loved them, and today they are even considered part of the culinary heritage of Aquitaine. Though crunchy, the little morsels will melt in your mouth. Plus, these black chocolate "vine-shoots" made with pure cocoa butter contain all-natural extracts that add a delicate hint of orange flavour. A sensual sensory treat!

CHOCOLATE PERLES DU MÉDOC (12 g)

Perles du MédocProducer: Mademoiselle de Margaux.

These chocolate "pearls" are another of the Confiserie Mademoiselle de Margaux's claims to fame. Their shape imitates the graves or gravel typically found in local vineyards. The perle du Médoc is actually a sun-drenched grape soaked in apricot and peach syrup and then dipped in black chocolate. Try this combination of textures and flavours for a sweet burst of fruity delight!
