Château Haut-Lagrange, Pessac-Leognan 2016, red wine (75cl, 13º)

pessac-leognan-bordeaux-wineWinemaker: Ghislain Boutemy, Château Haut-Lagrange

Here is a beautiful family estate (rare in the Bordeaux region!) that we discovered, benefiting from a terroir very comparable to its prestigious neighbours such as Château Smith Haut Lafitte for example and managed with a real eco-responsible approach, certified Terra Vitis and HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3 aiming at preserving both people and the environment.

On a great vintage in the Bordeaux region, Château Haut Lagrange 2016 is a magnificent Pessac Léognan with good ageing potential and a very successful wood-fruit balance. The colour is deep, with a garnet tint and a nose of very nice ripe fruit, with notes of sweet spices that are found in a dense, fleshy, well-balanced and very fresh mouth.

A delicious Pessac-Léognan that you can enjoy now with red meats, lamb or cheese, or leave to age for several years in the cellar...

Tasting temperature: 16-18º.

Château Penin, Cuvée les Cailloux 2017, AOC Bordeaux Supérieur, red wine (75 cl)

Rated 16,5/20 in "la Revue des Vins de Frances" (RVF), 91/92 by Yves Beck

chateau-penin-bordeaux-les-caillouxWinemaker: Patrick Carteyron, Château Penin

This 100% Merlot wine is one of those little gems that can be found if you look hard enough in the Bordeaux vineyards... The originality of this Bordeaux red comes from the vines that have at their feet 50 cm of gravel ("cailloux" in French) on a clay subsoil and which gives it its name.

After 12 months in new oak barrels, even if it is not a very old vintage, the wood is already well melted, the aromas are powerful and pleasant with a well-balanced wine that has a pleasing length on the palate. The very mineral side of this wine gives it a unique character that is much appreciated. Combined with the roundness, fluidity and fruity character of the Merlot, it is a delight. The nose is marked by aromas of candied red fruit, cocoa and vanilla. The wine is powerful, rich and fleshy.

You will love it from its youth for its fruit and finesse, while it has excellent ageing potential due to its solid tannic structure. It can be kept for 10 to 20 years, depending on the vintage.

A Bordeaux Supérieur of very high standards that Bordeaux lovers will never cease to be amazed by...

Château la Fleur Penin, Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2018, red wine (75cl, 14º)

1 star in the "guide des vins Hachette 2019"

saint-emilion-grand-cru-chateau-la-fleur-peninWinemaker: Patrick Carteyron, Château La Fleur Penin

Château La Fleur Penin is the fulfillment of an old dream of Patrick Carteyron (Château Penin), which he made come true in 2011 by buying this small property of 2.5 hectares of vines from 30 to 70 years old in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation that he leads in sustainable agriculture.

And on this other exceptional vintage 2018, the result is superb!

This blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%) gives us a dense wine, rich on the nose with hints of ripe fruit and spices, already in harmony on the palate with a beautiful persistence, everything we love about a great Saint-Emilion. A delicious Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from today but which can also be aged for a few years in the cellar.

Obviously on a beautiful piece of grilled beef this great Saint-Emilion is a real delight!
