Experience the succulent delights of Lorraine, and more specifically Moselle, as you eat your way through this fabulous gourmet box.

Organic Auxerrois white wine from Moselle, 2018 (75 cl)

organic-french-wine-moselle-auxerroisWinery: Domaine La Joyeuse - Culture Biologique, Daniel Stapurewicz.

Daniel Stapurewicz was the first vineyard proprietor in Moselle to switch to organic agriculture before the year 2000, recovering the essence of local grape varieties.

Despite what the name suggests, this organic white wine does not come from Auxerrois Blanc grapes but from a variety of Lorraine grape. With its pale golden colour, notes of white flowers and citrus (grapefruit and pineapple), and bright, distinctive palate, this is a fresh wine with a long, fruity finish.

Serve chilled.

Artisanal Lorraine pork terrine flavoured with redcurrant (100 g)

artisanal-terrine-lorraineArtisan : Terrines du Barrois, Conserverie artisanale de Lorraine.

Our artisan prepares traditional Lorraine recipes with no artificial colourings or preservatives. We truly enjoyed this low-fat pork terrine, and the subtle tang of redcurrant adds a sophisticated note. Enjoy as a snack or starter with a glass of the Auxerrois white in your gourmet box.

Savoury mini-biscuits with Munster cheese, hazelnut and fleur-de-sel (100 g)

biscuits-munster-cheeseArtisan: Dolce Teoria, Pâtisserie & Biscuiterie artisanale.

It’s impossible to visit Moselle without coming across some form of Munster cheese. Invented by the monks for whom it is named (Münster comes from the word for monastery), this soft cow’s milk cheese is a regional speciality you won't want to miss. The washed rind gives it a characteristic strong smell, but the flavour is delightfully mild.

Our artisan is an expert at making fine Italian pastry, but he decided to try something new and came up with these delicious Munster-flavoured snack biscuits. All we can say is bravissimo!

Mitonné, traditional Lorraine pork stew with Mirabelle plums and oyster mushrooms (400 g)

lorraine-pork-stewArtisan: Terrines du Barrois, Conserverie artisanale de Lorraine.

Les Terrines du Barrois is a leading name in the preparation of traditional Lorraine dishes. They make the most of the region’s flavours, using the finest local ingredients and their unique savoir-faire.

The delicate oyster mushrooms and sweet fruity Mirabelle plums from Lorraine’s orchards are a fabulous addition to this slow-cooked pork stew.

A tip for our gourmands: we loved the combination of this regional dish with the organic pearl barley also included in this gourmet box.

Organic grains, pearl barley with split peas (500 g)

organic-pearl-barleyArtisan: Ferme Bel Air, Famille Guillaume - Agriculture Biologique.

Pearl barley, one of the world’s oldest cultivated grains, can be cooked a thousand different ways and is an excellent alternative to wheat if you’re looking for something new.

Prepare it as a risotto, add it to soup or serve it as a side dish for a real organic treat.

The one and only Spritz de Lorraine: crisp, tender Viennese butter biscuits (200 g)

spritz-gateau-artisanalArtisan: Biscuiterie artisanale Saint-Julien, Les Frères Nondier.

Not to be confused with a summer wine spritzer, the spritz is a biscuit typical of Lorraine, especially popular during the Christmas season. The name comes from the German word for “squirt”, as these biscuits are made by squirting dough out of a piping bag.

Lovingly prepared by a small family bakery, these little morsels are ideal for a special after-dinner coffee or tea.

Bon Voyage to Moselle !
