This month LA GOURMET BOX invites you to discover Alsace, a verdant region of natural delights. Enriched by myriad cultural influences through the centuries, travellers are inevitably astonished by the beauty of its bucolic countryside, the variety of its cuisine and the elegance of its wines.
With this month's GOURMET BOX, we want to introduce you to some of Alsace's little-known culinary treasures: Riesling wine, Munster and choucroute terrines, mustard, Stollen fruit bread, Alsatian pretzels, biscuits and Gugelhupf cake... Now is the perfect time to experience Alsace in all its glory, as a cloak of gold and crimson hues settles over the countryside. Taste the autumnal splendour with our selection of gourmet delicacies.
Bon Voyage !

Vineyard: Domaine du Windmuehl.
The product of sustainable agriculture, this elegant, distinguished white wine is made on the Windmuehl estate, a family vineyard and winery run by Claude and Chantal Bleger. Riesling is a world-renowned grape variety typical of Alsace. This Riesling white from old-growth vines is noted for its smooth, complex taste and brilliant colour with hints of green. The seductively fresh mouthfeel and fruity aroma make it ideal to serve with seafood or alone as an aperitif. It’s also perfect for pairing with many traditional Alsatian dishes.
Producer: Esprit d'Alsace.
Prepared the traditional Alsatian way, the principal ingredient of this savoury terrine is Munster, the region's famous cheese made from cow's milk and often used in raclettes. You'll be amazed by the surprising combination of flavours! Presented in a lovely traditional jar, this terrine is the perfect choice if you're looking for a delicious and original hors d'oeuvre. Use toothpicks to spear small chunks of this delectable concoction and wash them down with a smooth glass of Riesling white.
Producer: Esprit d'Alsace.
This culinary adventure would not be complete without one of the choucroute (sauerkraut) terrines for which Alsace and its neighbours are famed. Rich in vitamin C, this familiar recipe based on pickled cabbage is actually quite nutritious, despite what many people think. Cut yourself a generous slice of bread, and you'll have a delicious, healthy evening snack ready before you can say "choucroute"!
Producer: Les Frères Stumpf.
The Stumpf brothers are currently the only manufacturers of traditional Alsatian mustard, noted for its sweet taste and tantalizing aroma. Founded in 1873, this family business is based in Lingolsheim, where it strives to preserve a culinary tradition on the verge of disappearing. We've selected the mildest variety of this mustard because it’s the ideal condiment for sausages and Alsatian choucroute. Take a moment to indulge in this forgotten speciality made by the last surviving moutarderie in Alsace.
Producer: Le Moulin des Moines.
What would Alsace be without its pretzels? These crunchy, salty, bow-shaped treats, called bretzels by the locals, are the perfect addition to any hors d'oeuvres spread. The flour used in Moulin des Moines pretzels comes from organic spelt, a tasty and amazingly nutritious plant known as the "caviar of grains". Combine these delicious salted pretzels with other gourmet hors d'oeuvres or enjoy them on their own for a guilt-free snack.
The Windmuehl estate is a retreat made in heaven for connoisseurs of fine wine and nature-loving travellers.
Two of our GOURMET BOXES will contain a fantastic gift certificate that entitles one fortunate gourmand to a night on the Windmuehl estate, where the wine in this month's box was made. The room boasts magnificent views of the vineyards, and you will be warmly welcomed by the Bleger family, the second generation of passionate Windmuehl wine-growers. We heartily recommend lounging on the splendidly spacious terrace with a glass of one of their wines: Pinot Gris, Crémant de Alsace, Sylvaner, Edelzwicker and many more. These surprise gift certificates are good for two people and also include a succulent breakfast. Visit this retreat made in heaven on our Blog Here
