A gourmet basket from Béarn, filled with products from small, authentic producers in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, to help you discover an extremely rich, varied and high-quality culinary production. Béarn is definitely a magnificent terroir!
Winemaker: Burgué-Seré family estate.
On the slopes of Saint-Faust just above Pau, the Séré family has been cultivating its 20 hectares of vines in front of the majestic Pyrenees for several generations, highlighting native grape varieties such as Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu, Camaralet and Lauzet (for the white wines) from which they offer us different Jurançons: dry, sweet and late-harvested.
Here we present their "C'est en septembre" vintage, hand-harvested in September from Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng and Petit Courbu grapes. This is a dry Jurançon white wine (very little residual sugar), elegant, fresh and fruity, which you'll particularly appreciate as an aperitif, with charcuterie for example, but also with seafood or even a good mountain fondue! Not all sweet Jurançons are worth the detour, you'll see!
Serving temperature: drink chilled at 8-10°c.
Artisanal cookie factory: Mordicus, Frédéric & Sandrine Vigliano.
With local ingredients guaranteed free of additives, colorants and preservatives, and fair-trade raw materials that all respect agriculture committed to the living world, we were immediately drawn to Frédéric and Virginie's philosophy! What's more, their creations are a real success in terms of both texture and taste!
We've chosen a sure bet for aperitifs: their delicious shortbread with Béarn cow's milk tomme, quite simply. You're sure to love them!
Artisan-conserver: Maison Argaud, Conserverie Artisanale, Paul Argaud and Éric Gourc.
The Porc noir de Bigorre (cousin of the Iberian pig, Spain's famous Pata Negra) is a purebred, all-black Gascon pig raised in the open air at the foot of the Pyrenees. This native breed of pig is much less productive than those pretty pink Duroc-type breeds, but the Porc noir de Bigorre obviously has a huge advantage when it comes to taste!
To make his terrine de porc noir de Bigorre, our craftsman relies on the high-quality, local ingredients so dear to Maison Argaud. The porc noir de Bigorre is raised in the open air of Gascony, roaming the undergrowth in search of acorns and chestnuts. This meat, generous and lightly marbled, with its powerful flavor and healthy fat, will allow you to enjoy a terrine with character, that smells of nature.
A pure, fresh delight on a slice of toasted farmhouse bread!
Artisanal cannery: Maison Biraben.
Piment d'Espelette in French, or "Ezpeletako biperra" in Basque, comes from the "Gorria" variety, the only French spice to benefit from an AOC/AOP. A native species of Mexican origin, it is used in the recipes of many Basque creations, starting with our traditional Basque pâté, which it spices up finely.
Our artisan has just won the gold medal at the Concours Général de Paris for this typical Basque pâté, proving that we weren't mistaken when we tasted this delicious pâté!
Artisanal cannery: Maison Biraben.
It's hard to miss cassoulet when you're trying to showcase Southwestern gastronomy! Here we present a slightly revisited version by our artisan. One of his specialties is processing fattened duck, so here he offers us his cassoulet with duck confit.
Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake au gratin: you'll be telling us all about it!
Biscuiterie Artisanale: Mes Petits Précieux, Laura Schneider.
We've tasted a lot of cookies in the course of our peregrinations through the French terroirs, so when we're really positively surprised during a tasting - as was the case when testing Laura's creations - we feel it would be impossible not to share this discovery with you..
Each cookie is handmade by Laura, in the traditional artisanal way, to guarantee a unique shortbread texture and irresistible taste. These Petits Précieux are like a perfect balance between the English shortbread and the Breton palate, a real shortbread of course, with no eggs, additives, coloring or preservatives.
We hesitated for a long time, as several tastes really appealed to us, and then the freshness of verbena combined with the complexity and warmth of Tonka bean won the day for their finesse and originality. We'll let you discover them without delay!
Artisanal jam maker: Loreztia.
The Roussanne peach has become a staple of the orchards of the Pays de Monein in the heart of Béarn. It had almost disappeared at the end of the 20th century, but has fortunately regained its color thanks to the work of a local cooperative. We love its generous shape, its beautiful yellow color with red spots, ripened by the sun, and its fragrant, juicy flesh.
This Basque jam also has a touch of originality, as it's made with lots of fruit (70%), cane sugar and ... a hint of honey!
The fruit is quickly cooked in small batches in copper cauldrons to preserve its natural flavor. We love it in the morning on a slice of buttered bread to start the day.

Every month, we have our new gourmet boxes tested by independent testers (we don't pay them! We just send them one of our boxes), specialized in the world of gourmet boxes, to get external opinions (we'd obviously give them 10/10 every time...) and publicize our latest gourmet baskets, because we're proud of them, and we have to play the game of criticism...
The excellent results of our Charente-Maritime gourmet box test on the Laboxdumois website: not bad!
