A gourmet basket filled with products from small, authentic producers in the Vendée, to help you discover an extremely rich, varied and high-quality culinary production. Between land and sea, the Vendée is a delight to discover!
Winemakers: Orion family, Domaine de la Barbinière, organic.
Although vines have been grown in the Vendée for a very long time, it wasn't until 1953 that the Vendée winegrowers grouped together under the Fiefs du Cardinal appellation to defend the quality of their wines produced on a wide variety of terroirs. They subsequently adopted the Fiefs Vendéens appellation in 1965, which was finally recognized as an AOC in 2011.
Comprising 5 terroirs that give the wines their distinctive character, we invite you to discover one of them, Chantonnay, through the goldsmith's work of the Orion family. Situated on a Carboniferous fault, Chantonnay boasts a wide variety of terroirs, producing some very interesting wines.
A blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, the cuvée Silex was particularly appealing. This fresh, fruity white wine, aged for 6 months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, is a delight and a perfect accompaniment to the tasting of your Vendée boxed set, especially the artisanal seafood spreads.
Serve between 8 and 10°C.
Artisan: La Centrale du Bocal.
Originally from the New World, beans were introduced to France in the 16th century. A regional specialty, the mogette, sometimes spelled mojette, is one of its descendants that has adapted perfectly to the particular conditions of this terroir.
Here, our artisan combines it with sardines for a tasty spread between land and sea.
Artisan-canner: conserverie artisanale de l'Île d'Yeu
Here's a terrine that perfectly combines the flavors and consistencies of fresh and smoked salmon for a creamy, well-balanced spread that will delight your taste buds!
La conserverie de l'Île d'Yeu has really impressed us with its tartinable de la mer, to be served as an aperitif on crispy toast or fresh bread, with a small glass of the delicious white wine from the Fiefs Vendéens that we've selected for our Vendée gourmet box set.
On your toast!
Artisan-biscuit maker: Les Petites Cagniottes, Noirmoutier Island.
As its name suggests, our artisan Préfou shortbread is totally inspired by the famous Préfou Vendéen. Préfou or paillou, which means pre-oven (before oven), is an unleavened bread that was baked to get an idea of the temperature of the traditional wood-fired oven in the days when there was no thermometer that could withstand high temperatures.
Here, our Vendée artisan revisits the traditional recipe, transposing it onto a delicious shortbread and using ingredients selected for their high quality and proximity to the cookie factory on the island of Noirmoutier. If you like garlic, you'll love this recipe for sablé apéritif: a crunchy delight reminiscent of La Vendée...
Tip: pop them in the oven for a few minutes to complete your Vendée aperitif: a real treat!
Artisan : La Centrale du Bocal.
With our artisan's duck parmentier with sweet potatoes and carrots, you'll have the chance to enjoy a revisited version of the traditional shepherd's pie, combining the richness of duck with the sweetness of sweet potatoes and the flavor of carrots.
Reheat in the oven or simply for 2 minutes in the microwave after removing the lid, and you're ready to go, with, for example, a pinch of fleur de sel from your Vendée gourmet basket to spice things up!
Artisan-Saunier: Rivolia salt marshes
Salt marshes have a primary use: salt production, of course! The coarse sea salt from the Ile d'Olonne is harvested from the clay bottoms of the salt marshes using ételle (a fragment of wood, larger than a chip), after the evaporation of seawater leaves behind these precious salt crystals. It's only after the Fleur de sel has been harvested from the surface of the carnations that the coarse salt is delivered to the saunier to release its intense, authentic flavor. Highly soluble, it's an essential condiment for court-bouillon and cooking.
Here, our artisan salt-maker, Rivolia salt marshes, adds a touch of lemon to create a fine, fragrant salt produced using traditional, organic farming methods.
This fleur de sel, composed of 95% fleur de sel and 5% lemon, is ideal for summer dishes, fish, grilled meats and vinaigrettes.
Artisan: Maison Planchot
Meilleur Ouvrier de France from father to son (the latter having received this distinction in 2015), the Planchot family has been developing a unique savoir-faire since 1929 with artisanal, local production that respects traditional methods to rediscover an authentic taste in their creations.
The crème caramel with butter and fleur de sel is obviously a highly successful must-have: just talking about it makes my mouth water. You're in for a treat!
Artisan biscuitier: Maison Planchot
In our Vendée gourmet box, we'd like you to discover a second delicacy from Maison Planchot: their mini galettes with Noirmoutier butter and fleur de sel.
Crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth, add a small spoonful of crème caramel to the galettes. Admittedly, it's borderline diet-related, but so good..

Every month, we have our new gourmet boxes tested by independent testers (we don't pay them! We just send them one of our boxes), specialized in the world of gourmet boxes, to get external opinions (we'd obviously give them 10/10 every time...) and publicize our latest gourmet baskets, because we're proud of them, and we have to play the game of criticism...
The excellent results of our Ardennes gourmet box test on the Laboxdumois website: not bad!
